When we have been given the vision to do something, we often hustle and bustle in excitement. It is hard to get us to stop moving because we feel so motivated in the first moments that an idea has been birthed. Now if you are anything like me you will then begin a checklist of ALL the things you will need to make this vision actually come true. Often times we look at our checklist, and then look at our finances and instantly start sweating bullets wondering where all that money is going to come from. Even as I started this blog there were many things that I wanted to go and buy so that I could have the look, and professional feel that I felt this (and you) deserved. What I found myself doing was running in circles, looking at all the things that I would need to get in order to get this thing off the ground. I had a few moments of sanity where I would tell myself “It’s ok to start small.” Then within the hour I would be back to running in circles and spending hours online to find the perfect setup that I was looking for. I spent a total of a week looking frantically online, and in person at stores trying to find the things that I wanted at a discounted rate. Needless to say your girl found absolutely nothing.
Then God spoke to me.
“Use what you have.”
Now I would love to act like I instantly listened to him when he told me this. For a few minutes I filtered through my mind the things that I already had at home, and soon was back to frantically trying to find something that would give my setup that oomph effect. Then God whispered again.
“Use what you have.”
My stubbornness caused me to miss out on valuable time and energy that I could have been using towards something else. Like putting my blog out sooner, using what I had at home. As I came home I sat down and realized that everything I was trying to do outside of the exact instructions God had given me, God himself was shutting them down. I found this to be frustrating yet hilarious because in that moment I realized I didn’t need any of the things that I thought I needed! Isn’t it funny how sometimes our vision will collide with God’s vision, and he will in fact have to shut us down just so we can think clearly? Sometimes we need to be shut down so we can think and see what God is trying to show us. God chastens his children like a loving father would his son or daughter as Proverbs 3:12 states
"Because the LORD disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in."
We must learn to take it as a lesson that when we hear God whisper something to us, it is to our benefit to listen. We must understand that when it comes to God's way versus our way, his way is without a shadow of a doubt the winning way. When we try to push our way we will only hurt ourselves.
So let’s go over the lesson that God gave me, to give to you.
1) When God gives you a vision he will give you the provision! Your job is to focus on the task at hand. Do you need to rehearse, study, or hone your craft? More than likely there will be some form of work required on your end, and it does not include you worrying endlessly where the money or platform will come from. Let God take care of that!
2) What you have IS enough- We have to trust that if God has called us to do something it is because he has given us the necessary tools to get started. Even if you think that you don’t have much, it will more than likely be more than enough to get you to where you need to go. When you need more, you will get more! The bible tells us not to despise the day of small beginnings. We must first master the level we are on, before we can walk into the next level. We have to grow into the level we are trying to walk into. There is nothing to be ashamed about starting small, We see this in Zechariah 4:10 (NLT)
"Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin..."
3)” All these things will be added to you”- That’s right! The word says that if we seek the kingdom of heaven first, that all these things will be added unto us. So it’s not different with the vision that God has given you. He is letting us know that if we keep him at the forefront of our lives that all the things that we need and want (according to his will) will be added to us! Our focus must be in the right direction so that when we get the things he has for us; we will use it properly. If our focus is off we will mishandle what he gives us, and then be left hoping and wishing that he will give us more.
When we use what we have properly we can then be trusted with more. Have you ever seen a child screaming for a new toy when they have an unused one in their hands? If so, do you remember how it made you feel to see them toss that toy like it was a used diaper?
Don’t be that kid.
If you are looking for a scriptural reference check out Matthew 6:33 (NLT)
“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”
So let’s get out there and make it happen! We have got to work what we have and allow God to do the rest for us! Also check out the video that I posted below regarding this!
